Social Media Revolution 2011

"Social Media is about People. It's about Relationship and Business, of course."

In the wave of Web 2.0, social media grows to become tools which enable communities to form and interact with one another. Anyone can collaborate as it's characterized by sharing and collaboration. Antony Mayfield from iCrossing defined Social Media as a group of new kinds of online media, which share most or all of the following characteristics: participation, openness, conversation, community and connectedness.

In their book titled The Social Media Bible, Lon Safko and David K. Brake argued that Social Media refers to activities, practices and behaviors among communities of people who gather online to share information, knowledge and opinion using conversational media. Conversational media are Web-based applications that make it possible to create and easily transmit content in the form of words, pictures, videos and audios.

From a business perspective, social media is about enabling conversation. It is also about the ways that the conversation can be prompted, promoted and monetized. As the video shows that "90% of consumers trust peer recommendations, only 14% trust advertisements." And this is the way social media works to support a new approach of business driven nowadays. You can ask your own self about what will you do when you want to buy a thing? You might feel comfort after reading or listening some recommendation from friends, colleagues or even acquaintances on Internet. Social media does this function completely perfect. And marketers get satisfied with it.

It's amazing to know how social media is changing the way human interact and communicate and business landscape as well. The video above shows us "social media revolution", based on #1 International Selling Book Socialnomics written by Erik Qualman. Yet everything will still be changing. And it will always be an incredible journey to discover the jungle named SOCIAL MEDIA.
